Dance Choreography in Room One

Rerewhakaaitu school is still hard at work singing, dancing and reciting their lines. Dances have been choreographed by the magnificent students and supported by the teachers and everyone is absolutely positively having a ball! The scenes Our Beautiful City, Measuring And Cutting, We Cook And We Bake, Day After Day, Gold AND Beware, A LOT is on our plates, but it's all going amazingly! The whole school is abuzz with all the production activity and better yet, only 7 weeks to go!!!

Rehearsals Begin

The Production

Lake Rerewhakaaitu school is a hive of production activity!
King Midas and the royal courtiers are working on the opening scene "Such a Wealthy Man."
The king's royal cooks are practising their dance and song "We Cook and We Bake." The king's royal seamstresses are also rehearsing their dance and practicing their singing "Measuring and cutting."
The citizens of Pessinus are singing their song "Our Beautiful City"
Everyone in the school is putting in their best efforts to make this production the best yet. Lines have been practiced. Songs have been sung. Everything is going wonderfully.

The day has finally arrived!

The set has been painted, the costumes sewn. The lights have been adjusted. Make-up, hairspray, gel, clips and glitter have been liberally applied. Chaos has come to the classrooms, nerves and excitement bubbling. There have been endless rehearsals and extra practices just to get the details right. Cardboard, paint, staples, masking tape, elastic and other sundry items clutter the spaces. Costumes hang from every railing and door handle. Plastic bags containing mysterious items are piled in every corner. Songs continue to echo around and around inside our heads. We wake up in the morning humming the melodies. We wake up at 3.00am and think of a few more jobs that need to be completed. We write and rewrite rehearsal schedules on the staff room whiteboard, flexibility is the name of the game! Phone calls, notices, instructions, dance choreography, ennunciation exercises, lunch time, don't forget to go to the toilet and wash your hands before you get near your costumes!
And the show begins....

I would like to acknowledge all the parents and other helpers whose contributions make it possible for us to produce our show. It has been a lot of work, but it has also been a lot of fun. It is an enormous co-operative effort, but it is well worth it for the tremendous learning experiences that the children gain.
Enjoy the show!
